Lab Objective. By successfully completing this lab, students should be able to:

  • describe the dangers and benefits of creating and maintaining a professional online presence
  • update your professional online e-portfolios with evidence of digital age online 2-way collaboration, not just 1-way sharing of your information and accomplishments

Look for online information about the student next to you using standard search engines:

Reviewing your web presence and that of your instructor and classmates. Helpful Checklist

Discuss the classroom teaching videos provided in the resources and how to be videoed as a teacher and have that shared on the Internet or in the context of Edthena (recently purchased by Neag).

Creating and Curating a Web Presence

    • there are MANY tools for helping with 508 compliance, but you may recall being familiar with
    • CynthiaSays (the compliance sheriff)
    • WAVE

Discussion: What to post on a class Twitter account. What additional PD would you request before you were willing to begin sharing professional and/or from your classes? How do you plan to use online resources to continue to develop your teaching craft?

Stretch Goal: How is adult learning (by teachers honing their craft) different from children’s learning?

And since you are Master’s students…

  • Consider constructing a Researchable Question concerning Teacher Online Professional Presence and teaching with technology in a digital age.

Professional Presence Assignment:

Upload to HuskyCT a link to your Professional Online Presence, along with a brief text description of your current thinking about how you might participate with the online community of teaching professional, contributing, sharing, and of course borrowing from their collective experiences with regard to the wise integration of technology into classroom instruction.

For your target lesson plan….

Consider that you would like to share your lesson with other teachers beyond your school district through EdThena (with comments, stop points and peer review), and also look for similar lessons designed by teachers around the world… in your final essay, consider how you might create an online presence that would enable you to share your lesson in a professional way, and receive comments and input from other teachers, without exposing yourself to the dangers of being a public figure with private ideas and opinions.

Enduring Understanding- Student Learning Outcome from this module

This module intends to prepare teachers for ISTE Standard for Educators 1B that states: Pursue professional interests by creating and actively participating in local and global learning networks. Particularly with regard to online professional networking and open information sharing for parents, students, colleagues, and the community.

In order to participate in local and global online networks, you need to create and safely maintain an active online professional presence.
