Lab Objective. By successfully completing this lab, students should be able to:
- describe five common ethical concerns of classroom technology integration
- As a group (subgroup of cohort members), combine your efforts to produce a consensus statement regarding acceptable use of technology and ethical behavior in the post-COVID era. You will be assigned to a writing group of 4 or 5 students.
Activity Guide:
- Complete the JigSaw readings and resources– meet with your READING group using the GROUP Tools (keep your instructor informed on this process). This will be only for studying and understanding the readings. You will be in a different group for writing your consensus.
- Once you have discussed all the readings, meet with your WRITING group. You will be the only representative having read the papers in your reading group. The others will have read different issues.
- Assignment: As a Writing group, compose a consensus statement (for teachers and K-12 students) concerning the ethical use of technology for instruction. Be sure to consider the legal and policy resources provided in this module, plus the experiences you gained from playing Cards Against Education Ethics to craft a statement that addresses the abstract principles of ethical tech use, and the complexities presented when current laws and policies do not specifically address the context, technologies, and circumstances that present for each student and teacher working in authentic situations. Share this consensus statement with the class.
DISCUSSION
Consider how technology may enable large groups, to work collaboratively, online, to create a shared document that represents input from all and a consensus among the group. What technology might be used to help facilitate such a large working group?
