Assistive Tech 5220 Initial Thoughts

Assisitve Technology is defined as any tool, equipment, device, modification or adaptation designed to allow a person with a disability to develop, maintain, or improve their ability to perform an educational activity independently and successfully. If you’ve had a disability during your school years, or even just been on crutches for a few weeks, then you have already had direct experience that schools can present many challenges such as carrying books, laptops and calculators and using keyboards and tiny calculator displays. If you haven’t, then you may have seen assistive technology around, including curb cuts, bathroom rails and automatic doors. What assistive technology have you seen used in K-12 classrooms where you went to school?
